Nutrition for prostate cancer: harmful and healthy foods

The treatment of prostate cancer involves not only drug therapy, but also a special dietary adjustment. The effectiveness of the diet for this disease is confirmed by statistical data. In the Mediterranean, prostate cancer is very rare in comparison with the “fast food countries” (USA and European countries).

This is due to the fact that the inhabitants of the Mediterranean adhere to a healthy and nutritious diet containing a large number of vegetables and fruits. Malnutrition, which is so common in developed countries, significantly increases the incidence of prostate cancer. A similar situation is also observed in the countries of the former USSR, since most of their inhabitants do not at all follow the correctness of their diet.

General recommendations

If a man has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, then he should switch to proper nutrition as soon as possible. This will help eliminate the risk of spreading tumor metastases throughout the body. In addition, a complete diet contributes to the partial or complete elimination of prostate cancer.

The most effective diets for prostate cancer are Japanese and Mediterranean. A feature of these methods is the consumption of a large number of natural products.

Japanese diet involves eating:

  • Soybeans
  • Different varieties of fish,
  • Green tea
  • Various vegetables.

A diet consistent with the Mediterranean diet includes:

  • A large number of vegetables (garlic and tomatoes),
  • Fruit,
  • Fish,
  • Olive oil.

In general, a patient with prostate cancer should follow these guidelines:

  • Do not fry meat and fish, but steam, cook or bake.
  • Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
  • Reduce the intake of foods containing a large amount of calcium (for example, fatty cottage cheese).
  • Buy B vitamins and take them in accordance with the instructions.
  • Replace black tea with green, as it is much more beneficial for patients with prostate cancer.
  • There are many fruits that contain natural vitamin C (citrus fruits, avocados).
  • Eating less canned or salted foods will completely limit your intake of fried foods and fast food.
  • About once a week, drink red wine or grape juice.

By adjusting your diet in accordance with these recommendations, you will help your body cope with cancer.

Food to be excluded from the diet

Diet involves not only the use of healthy foods, but also the rejection of harmful ones. Patients with prostate cancer are not allowed to eat the following foods:

  1. Fatty meat, pastes, sausages, canned food, fast food. Products contain a lot of animal fats, which adversely affect the healing process.
  2. Margarine. It contains trans-fatty acids, which stimulate the growth of tumor cells.
  3. Confectionery and other products with a lot of "fast carbohydrates." They cause increased production of insulin, which in large quantities can accelerate the growth of tumors.
  4. Canned and pickled products. The patient should not consume vinegar and a large amount of salt.
  5. Fried food. In the process of their preparation, carcinogens are formed in food.
  6. Strong black tea, sweet soda, and coffee also provoke the growth of cancer cells.
  7. Linseed oil. It is not recommended to consume oil, although it contains unsaturated fatty acids. This is due to the fact that it contains carcinogen-like substances that accelerate tumor growth. Also, do not use canola or corn oil.

Fig. 2 - Fried foods and fast food have a proven property of increasing the risk of developing cancerous tumors.

By following these recommendations, you will help your body cope with the neoplasm.

It is worth noting that proper nutrition in prostate cancer is only part of complex therapy, and not a panacea for all diseases. A properly composed diet will only help accelerate the action of drugs and remove the adverse effects of treatment. For example, weakened immunity after using chemotherapy can be stimulated with fruits that contain large amounts of vitamin C and selenium.

Harmful products

The list of the most controversial products for prostate cancer is headed by red meat. Most doctors suggest that lamb, pork and beef are completely excluded from the menu. Some experts allow a limited amount of lean meat (not more than 2 times a week).

Prohibited foods include:

  • smoked meats
  • sausage,
  • salty fish,
  • cream, fat cottage cheese, sour cream and other dairy products,
  • natural coffe,
  • strong tea,
  • spices
  • canned food.

Experts recommend reducing the amount of fat and calcium, reducing the amount of salt and pepper in food. Food should not be fried or grilled, preferably baked or cooked. The daily norm of calories is about 2000, excess weight very negatively affects the development of the tumor.

The most healthy dishes

To strengthen the body's defenses, vegetables and fruits should be included in the menu. Doctors recommend at least 400 g of vegetables and 250 g of fruits or berries daily.

The fruits can be consumed:

  • fresh
  • bake,
  • cook
  • cook for a couple.

Especially useful are tomatoes containing high doses of antioxidants and lycopene, legumes rich in fiber, as well as cabbage in all forms, which helps to delay the development of tumors.

The diet must include yellow and red fruits and vegetables, rich in vitamins A and C.

The list of certainly useful products includes:

  • soy dishes (reduce the risk of relapse, relieve the condition during chemotherapy),
  • low-fat rabbit, turkey, chicken meat (rich in protein),
  • seafood (source of zinc, magnesium, selenium),
  • dried fruits and nuts (contain healthy carbohydrates and fructose),
  • whole grains (a source of valuable fiber),
  • vegetable oils (a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids),
  • lean fish (easy to digest, contains a lot of protein).

How should nutrition be organized for prostate cancer in order to prevent, or at least help minimize, the possibility of the onset and development of all sorts of complications?

At all stages of prostate cancer, a diet requires a thoughtful attitude. It is advisable to cook food yourself, completely controlling the composition of the dishes.

It is important not to overeat, monitor weight and cholesterol. The right menu will help you feel cheerful and successfully deal with a dangerous disease.

Why diet is important

Carcinoma (prostate cancer) is a malignant formation that occurs in the alveolar-cellular elements of an organ. This ailment is quite common among the male population of the planet. The main treatment is to remove the tumor, conduct radiation and chemotherapy, and take hormones.

The prostate is considered the most important organ of a man. She reacts to any problems with the immune system by inflammatory processes or hyperplasia, after which oncology develops. Diet for prostate cancer helps the body fight the negative effects of drugs, significantly improves the quality of life of the patient and helps inhibit the pathological process. Thanks to proper nutrition, free radicals cease to form in the body, metabolism is normalized, and the body receives all vital components.

Dietary nutrition for prostate cancer is designed to:

  • to suspend the course of the malignant process,
  • in the early stages to accelerate the complete elimination of the disease,
  • increase immunity by switching his strength to fight the disease,
  • stimulate tissue repair processes,
  • improve the general condition of a man,
  • normalize metabolic processes and prevent weight loss, which in oncology can lead to depletion of the body.

Important! A healthy diet after removal of prostate cancer, radiation, radio and chemotherapy strengthens the body's defenses and prevents the occurrence of complications that arise during treatment.

Useful and harmful products

It should be remembered that the diet for prostate cancer absolutely eliminates the use of harmful ones and recommends the consumption of healthy foods. The therapeutic nutrition of a male cancer patient can be based on a Mediterranean or Japanese diet. With a Mediterranean diet, a large amount of garlic, apples, citruses, vegetable oil is consumed. Eastern diet provides for the consumption of seaweed, ginger, soybeans, Chinese green tea. The daily menu of the patient should include:

  • greens (onions, dill, parsley),
  • red fruits and berries (preferably not sweet),
  • cereals (oatmeal, buckwheat, semolina, brown rice),
  • vegetables (zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, boiled potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, white)
  • low-fatty milk drinks,
  • Bee Honey,
  • germinated wheat rich in vitamin B,
  • legumes
  • spices (especially turmeric),
  • seaweed and seafood,
  • rye bread and bran.

The patient will benefit from marine fish (mackerel, salmon, tuna, trout).

According to research, the list of beneficial products for prostate cancer that can help cure includes:

  • pomegranate and walnut - in the peel and grains of pomegranate, as well as in the walnut kernels contain phytochemicals that reduce the risk of developing tumor formations,
  • green tea. It is filled with antioxidants and polyphenols, which suppress the growth of neoplasms in the prostate gland,
  • Tomatoes and tomato products contain antioxidants that stop the growth of tumor cells,
  • peel of grapes and other fruits included in the composition of resveratrol. Animal studies have shown that this element reduces the risk of developing carcinoma.

Prohibited Food and Beverage

The male body, when undergoing treatment and at the stage of recovery, is especially sensitive to carcinogens, preservatives and dyes, which are present in convenience foods and industrial preservation. In addition, you need to know what other foods you can not eat with prostate cancer. These include:

  • any industrial sausages, sausages, sausages,
  • smoked products
  • canned fish and meat,
  • freezing
  • juices in bags
  • fast food (shawarma, pasties, french fries, hamburgers, etc.),
  • mushrooms in any form,
  • carbonated drinks (mineral water, lemonade), coffee, alcohol.

It is not advisable to include yeast cakes in the diet, as well as products that contain vinegar.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals for Disease

The oncological process leads to the depletion of the body. To fill the shortage of useful components, reduce the length of the rehabilitation period, recover from chemotherapy faster and biologically active substances help to recover:

  • vitamins of group B, E, D, C, K,
  • magnesium,
  • zinc,
  • selenium,
  • iron
  • fatty acids (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated),
  • antioxidants.

Vitamin B is involved in the process of hematopoiesis, tissue regeneration and metabolism, selenium and tocopherol (vitamin E) destroy the proteins involved in oncological processes.

Important! A man suffering from prostate carcinoma should consume a minimal amount of calcium, cholesterol and sucrose.

The basic principles of nutrition

Some experts believe that a diet for prostate cancer has a beneficial effect not only on the well-being of the patient, but also increases survival statistics. In this case, it is important to draw up a diet, starting from not only the stage of the pathological process, but also take into account the individual characteristics of the man (for example, body mass index, list of drugs prescribed by the doctor). With a competent approach to the patient's menu, the following nutrition principles should be considered:

  • in the interval between hormonal and radiation therapy, daily calorie content should decrease,
  • food should contain a minimum amount of animal fat,
  • foods containing large amounts of calcium should be consumed in limited quantities.

The consumption of red meat (especially veal) should not exceed more than 100 g per day. The remaining protein deficiency is recommended to fill with white meat of chicken, rabbit, fish. Useful foods are those that contain soy, especially cheeses.

Animal fats, including dairy products, fatty meats and some confectionery products, it is desirable to either completely eliminate, or eat in minimal amounts. They contain trans-fatty acids, which can contribute to the growth of malignant tumors. Instead, you should enrich your diet with vegetable fats: olive and corn oil, filled with vitamin E - an important element for the prostate.

The principles of changing the diet of the patient

It is believed that nutrition in prostate cancer affects not only the patient’s well-being, but also survival statistics. It is important that the diet was compiled not only taking into account the stage of oncology, but also the individual characteristics of the man, including his body mass index (BMI). It will not be amiss to take into account the drugs taken, because only an oncologist together with a nutritionist can make up a proper diet.

With a competent approach, the following aspects of catering should be observed:

  1. In the period between sessions of hormonal or radiation therapy, daily caloric value should decrease.
  2. The products should have as little animal fats as possible.
  3. Products containing calcium should be limited.

The intake of red meat, especially veal / beef, pork and lamb, is always limited. It can be eaten no more than 100 g per day, the rest of the need is recommended to fill up at the expense of rabbit meat, chicken, turkey, as well as fish. Soy foods, especially cheeses, are also good for the patient.

Animal fats are either completely eliminated from the diet or significantly limited. You should be especially careful with dairy products, fatty meats and some confectionery. They always contain a lot of animal fat, and the production of baking is impossible without changing the qualitative composition of the products and the predominance of trans-fatty acids in them. These substances can play the role of a stimulant for cancer cells.

Instead of animal fats, it is recommended to use vegetable fats. Especially good in this case are olive and corn oils, which contain vitamin E - an important element for the prostate gland.

The total amount of fatty foods should not exceed 30% of the daily calorie intake.

What is good to eat

Not all food products considered useful are those for a cancer patient. Especially dangerous in this regard is prostate cancer, which is characterized by a high growth rate and a significant decrease in the quality of life of a man. Unlike the diet for chronic prostatitis, the diet for cancer is slightly different.

The daily menu should include:

  • greens, especially chives,
  • red fruits and berries (they slow down the growth of the cancer)
  • low fat lactic acid products,
  • natural honey, especially linden, buckwheat and chestnut,
  • sprouted wheat
  • bean
  • spices containing turmeric
  • seaweed,
  • bran bread.

The daily consumption of vegetables should not be less than 400 g, for fruits and berries this value is 200 g. They can be eaten raw, and can also be added to various dishes, including those involving heat treatment.

Useful for the sick fish, especially mackerel. salmon, tuna, trout, and shrimp. They contain all the substances necessary for the normal functioning of the prostate gland.

What not to eat

The body of a man with prostate cancer and undergoing chemotherapy or hormone therapy is especially sensitive to preservatives and dyes, which are invariably present in most processed foods and industrial preservation.

Therefore, such a person is prohibited:

  • cooked and smoked sausages,
  • any smoked foods (stimulate the growth of cancer cells),
  • canned food
  • freezing
  • packaged juices
  • products of fast food restaurants,
  • carbonated drinks.

It is important to remove yeast cakes from the diet, as well as any dishes and products containing vinegar. The ban applies to mushrooms in any form.

The use of natural suppressors

Research in the field of cancer treatment does not stop and recently, scientists were able to identify natural suppressors. These are various foods that can stop the growth of cancer cells in the tissues of the affected organ.

Unlike synthetic analogs, natural suppressors do not have a toxic effect, and therefore are suitable even for patients with an affected liver.

It has been established that in some types of cabbage, especially cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, indole-3-carbinol is contained. This is a natural oncoprotector that interrupts the activity of alpha receptors in oncology cells, thereby disrupting their vital activity and leading to their death. It is for this reason that cabbage, preferably fresh, should be in the diet of a sick man.

Useful for prostate cancer of any degree and green tea. It contains epigallocatechin-3-gallate - a very powerful antioxidant that suppresses cancer cells. It has been found that people who regularly drink green tea are less likely to get prostate cancer.

Why follow a diet for prostate cancer?

Everyone needs to eat properly, not only sick people, but also healthy people, because proper nutrition is the key to health, beauty and longevity. But of particular importance is given to the diet during the treatment of malignant prostate cancer. Thanks to the diet, the pathological process may stop in the patient’s body, free radicals will stop forming, the metabolism will normalize, the body will be saturated with useful substances.

Healthy nutrition, diet - the principle of healthy lifestyle (healthy lifestyle). It is thanks to the diet that it is possible to improve the functioning of the immune system, to prevent the occurrence of complications that can develop after undergoing radiation therapy, radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

Thanks to the diet, a patient who has undergone chemotherapy or surgery to remove a malignant tumor in the prostate is recovering faster, is more likely to recover.

Dietary nutrition, begun at the first stage of cancer, reduces the likelihood of metastasis in other organs. The chance of a full recovery increases if the diet is combined with medical procedures. The use of products that contain natural suppressors stops the growth of neoplasms and blocks the cell division of the tumor. Proper nutrition for grade 3 prostate cancer, when chemotherapy is prescribed for the patient, helps to avoid exhaustion, and also helps to restore immunity after treatment. Doctors recommend minimizing prohibited foods for cancer prevention with a genetic predisposition.

Basic Rules

The principles of nutrition - the naturalness of foods, frequent meals in small portions, rejection of harmful foods, as well as frequent drinking.

The Importance of Diet for Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a tumor formed from cells of the alveolar fiber of an organ. The disease is malignant. The prostate gland in the body of a man is responsible for the functioning of the immune system, controls inflammatory processes and other benign neoplasms. The cause of cancer is often a violation of the metabolic functions of the body. Complicating factors are concomitant diseases: diabetes, overweight, high blood pressure, unbalanced nutrition.

In the presence of an oncological tumor and after removal, the patient needs a correct, balanced diet. The use of products with a high content of vitamins and minerals necessary for the body will help prevent the development of pathology.

An established diet for prostate cancer solves a number of problems:

  • A man will recover faster after chemotherapy courses and exposure to gamma rays.
  • Immunity is strengthened, which increases the activity of the body's protective functions.
  • The patient's well-being improves - this affects the person's ability to work.
  • Further tumor growth and the spread of metastases are blocked.

When observing patients, doctors revealed a connection between nutrition and the development of the disease. The use of animal fats in oncology in the tissues of the prostate gland of the 2nd degree is accompanied by rapid tumor growth and a sharp deterioration in the well-being of men. At stage 4, the abuse of the wrong products leads to the aggressive spread of metastases in the bones and other tissues of the organs.

The list of products harmful to pathology

During the observation of patients, doctors identified a number of foods that can not be eaten with prostate cancer. Nutrition for prostate cancer can provoke further deterioration of the disease or contribute to the rapid recovery of the body.

The patient should reduce the amount of salt and pepper and in addition to exclude the following foods from the diet:

  • red meat - lamb, beef and pork,
  • smoked dishes
  • sausages and other red meat processing products,
  • salted and smoked fish,
  • milk and other high fat fermented milk products,
  • coffee and black tea
  • spicy and spicy seasonings,
  • canned food
  • fried and grilled dishes,
  • alcohol-containing and carbonated drinks.

During the illness, doctors recommend eliminating nicotine or reducing its intake. Hookah is also harmful, you have to refuse.

Foods to include in your diet

A proper diet containing an abundance of vitamins and minerals will help in the fight against oncology. The body experiences a heavy load with active tumor growth, suffers from drugs used to treat pathology. Therefore, it is recommended to reduce the burden on the digestive organs and ensure saturation with useful minerals.

Essential products for prostate cancer:

  • tomatoes contain a lot of antioxidants and lycopene, which are required by the body,

  • fruits, berries and vegetables of yellow and red shades and greens,
  • freshly squeezed juices, chicory, green tea,
  • you will need to increase the consumption of vegetable oils rich in polyunsaturated acids,
  • increase soy intake, especially after chemotherapy courses.

Cooking is recommended by boiling, stewing or baking in the oven. Doctors recommend consuming fruits and vegetables with herbs up to 400 g daily.

Nutrition at different stages of the disease

The disease at different stages manifests itself in different ways, so the diet is different. The patient is usually offered two diet options - Mediterranean or Japanese. The choice depends on the medical condition and well-being of the patient. The menu of the Mediterranean diet includes the consumption of a large number of apples, olive oil, garlic and oranges. Japanese food is characterized by seaweed, ginger, soy and green tea.

The initial stage of pathology

At the first stage, the disease is usually asymptomatic, which complicates early detection. It is possible to detect a tumor by chance when examining the body for other diseases or with regular medical examination. At this stage, cancer is easily treatable, but you can’t eat the usual foods. The doctor makes an individual menu, which is recommended to be followed for a long period of time.

  • you need to increase the consumption of fresh vegetables in red and yellow,
  • dried fruit nuts are rich in fructose and healthy carbohydrates, which are absorbed for a long time,
  • useful products containing vitamins - B, C, E, folic acid,
  • green tea is allowed from drinks,
  • berries and fruits can be consumed fresh or cook jelly, fruit drinks,
  • harmful fast food is recommended to be excluded from the diet - french fries, chips, pizza, etc.,
  • alcohol, sweet carbonated drinks are prohibited.

It is proved that following a diet helps to stop the growth of cancer education. Vitamins with useful trace elements stimulate the active functioning of their own immunity. The consumption of healthy foods should be combined with regular walks in the fresh air - this will improve the well-being of the patient.

Nutrition for prostate cancer in 2 stages

In the second stage, many patients have the first metastases in the nearest tissue. Therapeutic measures include chemotherapy courses, radiation, and atypical cell excision surgery. Nutrition at this stage helps block the growth of metastases and reduce the size of the tumor.

In the menu you need to include the listed products:

  • steamed, non-greasy fish in the oven or boiled,
  • from meat it is recommended to give preference to chicken and turkey, rich in healthy protein,
  • drinks are allowed fruit drinks and juices from berries and fruits,
  • herbal teas increase the therapeutic effect of medical measures in the fight against pathology,
  • fatty foods, fried foods, smoked meats and canned foods should be excluded from the diet,
  • coffee, tea, alcohol, soda should not be consumed.

The treatment, combined with a properly selected menu, will accelerate recovery and will block the further spread of the tumor. Therefore, doctors pay great attention to nutrition, creating an individual menu.

3 stage pathology

It is completely difficult to cure grade 3 prostate cancer, so the efforts of the doctor and patient are aimed at stopping unpleasant symptoms. The tumor is diagnosed with metastases in the surrounding tissues, which complicates the treatment. The menu is consistent with therapeutic measures and medications that are used for treatment.

The diet consists of the following products:

  • fish can only be low-fat,
  • white meat recommended rabbit, chicken and turkey,
  • fresh vegetables of red, yellow shades,
  • greens in large quantities,
  • products containing vitamins A, E and C,
  • it’s better to cook in olive oil,
  • dairy products with a low percentage of fat,
  • porridge made from whole grains cooked in water.

Smoking and drinking alcohol is not recommended. Nicotine blocks the absorption of nutrients, which negatively affects the well-being of the patient. From greens, you need to increase the consumption of green onions. Vegetable salads are best seasoned with ginger sauce with olive oil.

Stage 4 disease

Oncology of the 4th degree is considered the most dangerous and inoperable. Here metastases penetrate into bone tissue and more distant parts of the body. The patient's health deteriorates sharply and reacts to all external stimuli in an acute form. It is impossible to recover from cancer in the last stage. Therapy is aimed at stopping painful symptoms and blocking the aggressive spread of the tumor.

Menus are made up of the following products:

  • dishes should be boiled or steamed,
  • low-fat dairy products are allowed,
  • a large amount of red and yellow vegetables,
  • greens at every meal,
  • rice cooked in water with a little salt,
  • from meat you can only rabbit, chicken and turkey,
  • herbal teas, mint tea are allowed from drinks
  • food intake should be frequent and in small portions.

At this stage, the patient experiences severe pain and other unpleasant symptoms that cause some discomfort. Proper nutrition will remove unnecessary burdens from the digestive system, support immunity, and stop the growth of the tumor.

Chemotherapy Nutrition

Prostate cancer is treated with various therapeutic measures. Chemotherapy is the effect on the neoplasm with drugs from the group of cytostatics. Medicines have a severe effect on the body, because destroy not only atypical cells, but also healthy ones. Courses often occur with the manifestation of side effects in the form of nausea attacks with severe vomiting and profuse diarrhea. To stop unpleasant consequences, it is recommended to choose the right menu to reduce the load from the gastrointestinal tract.

During this period, the consumption of healthy foods is recommended:

  • freshly squeezed juices and fruit drinks from berries will help restore appetite, which decreases when exposed to heavy drugs on the body,
  • white meat - rabbit, turkey, chicken,
  • low-fat cottage cheese will make up for protein deficiency,
  • in the absence of diarrhea, dairy products can be introduced into the diet,
  • boiled chicken eggs,
  • fresh vegetables and salads with olive oil,
  • fruits and berries,
  • greens, especially onions and dill,
  • infusions and decoctions of medicinal herbs will help stop the signs of diarrhea,
  • boiled rice in the water will relieve irritation symptoms from the intestinal mucosa,
  • drops of peppermint juice help stop nausea
  • cereals from the embryos of corn, oats and wheat will make up for the deficiency of iron and hemoglobin, which is required to restore blood formation,
  • lentils contain many useful trace elements that are required for a weakened body.

Nutrition doctor is individually. It takes into account the physical condition of the patient and medical indicators. Medications that are used to reduce cancer are affecting the selection of products.

Diet for exposure to cancer by radioactive substances

When exposed to gamma rays in the body, healthy cells often die, which affects the well-being of men. The genitourinary system is particularly affected, which is manifested by exacerbation of cystitis - frequent urges to urinate. To stop the unpleasant consequences, a salt-free diet is prescribed.

During this period, it is not recommended to use:

  • foods high in animal protein - all types of meat and fish, cottage cheese,
  • Fresh white flour bread
  • sweet pastries and other wheat buns,
  • dishes with a high content of hot and spicy seasonings that contribute to high blood pressure,
  • foods high in animal fat
  • smoked and canned food,
  • rich meat broths,
  • alcoholic and sweet carbonated drinks,
  • salt,
  • black tea and coffee.

Radioactive elements affect the body, which affects the functioning of all systems. The stomach and intestines experience a heavy load, which is expressed by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea of varying intensity. General weakness with rapid fatigue with small physical exertion is noted.

For the duration of radiotherapy, it is worth enriching the diet with the following products:

  • mineral water makes up for the lack of trace elements that are responsible for the composition of the blood,
  • cereals cooked in water from whole grains or sprouted grains,
  • fresh juices,
  • fruit drinks from fresh berries or jam,
  • green tea or herbal decoctions,
  • fresh milk and dairy products, in the absence of profuse diarrhea,

  • wild berries - blackcurrant, strawberries, gooseberries, etc.,
  • watermelon and melon contain many useful trace elements that are required for a weakened body,
  • compotes of dried fruits and fresh fruits,
  • cottage cheese 1% will make up for protein deficiency,
  • chicken eggs can only be boiled,
  • white meat - rabbit, turkey,
  • non-fat fish
  • stewed beef liver with sour cream or milk,
  • vegetable soups or cooked on a broth from lean meats,
  • rye bread or whole grain bread,
  • there should be a lot of greens.

A person is difficult to tolerate courses of therapy with radioactive substances, which is expressed by weakness and impaired functioning of all body systems. A serious complication of radiation is considered to be an altered blood composition. To make up for the missing micronutrients, products containing minerals are needed.

Hormone therapy

Hormone-containing drugs are used at many stages of the pathology. The action can be aimed at stimulating the production of, or vice versa, stopping the production of certain hormones. The use of fatty, salty and canned foods is not recommended at this time. Dishes should not be fried and grilled. Better to cook or stew, you can steam and in the oven.

In the presence of a high percentage of calcium in the blood, it is necessary to limit the intake of chicken yolks, hard cheeses, fat cottage cheese and boiled beets. Herbal teas from medicinal herbs and mineral water are used.

The content of the menu coincides with chemotherapy and radiation exposure. The doctor selects the products individually according to medical indications and physical condition. The menu is drawn up for a week to replenish the necessary minerals and vitamins. The patient regularly undergoes tests to monitor the development of the disease and adjust nutrition.

2 stage

With prostate cancer of the 2nd degree, the diet is as follows:

  1. Refusal of meat. Doctors recommend replacing meat with low-fat fish or with white meat of chicken, turkey, and rabbit.
  2. It is necessary to abandon coffee, as it increases blood pressure, contributes to an increase in blood coagulability, thereby leading to the appearance of blood clots. But for people who want to protect themselves from prostate cancer, coffee is not only possible, but also necessary. This invigorating drink is able to block the harmful effects of free radicals.
  3. Emphasis should be placed on the use of drinks - green tea, fruit or berry fruit drinks, and herbal teas.

4th stage

At the last stage of the disease, we are no longer talking about the recovery of a person. It focuses on maintaining the normal functioning of the body. Although the diet does not affect the fate of the patient, it can alleviate his condition.

At the 4th stage of the tumor process, you just need to eat right, otherwise a person will suffer a lot. It is important to carefully choose a diet. The body must be replenished with a large amount of vitamins, so that a person has strength. Therefore, you need to eat at least 5 times a day. To increase strength, it is necessary to consume proteins. Food should be natural, because toxic and carcinogenic substances that may be contained in various products can enhance the development of the malignant process.

Calorie table allowed foods

When compiling a daily diet and an approximate menu for a week, it is important to take into account the calorie content of food. This rule is especially relevant for men who have an increased BMI. It is easier to navigate by the weight of the patient:

  • 60 kg - 1800-2400 Kcal,
  • 70 kg - 2100-2800 Kcal,
  • 80 kg - 2400-3200 Kcal.

In this case, carbohydrates in the diet should be no more than 55%, fats 30%, and proteins - 15%. Knowing these guidelines is much easier to make a diet using the table below.

The numbers in the table are given in for 100 g of the product, making up the diet this fact also needs to be taken into account. More detailed information can be found in the manuals on dietetics, as well as on the relevant medical resources.

Power Mode and Menu

It is difficult, not knowing the taste preferences of a man, to compose a diet for him for a week. Especially when it comes to prostate cancer. The diet in this case is limited to permitted foods, because the patient’s wife will have to show miracles of ingenuity.

We have prepared an approximate diet, but if desired, it can be adjusted in accordance with your situation.

It is also important to control the intake of salt in the body, it should not be more than 5 g per day, including salting and use in dishes. This is about a teaspoon without a slide.

Nutrition Tips and Tricks

To improve the well-being of a patient with prostate cancer, it is not enough to know the basic principles of a diet and menu for a week, you need to have an idea about general recommendations. They relate to methods of cooking and eating and are based on physiological changes in the body with cancer.

  1. You can not eat hot or cold food, it should be at room temperature.
  2. To reduce the load on the intestines, you need to chew slowly, not in a hurry.
  3. Roasting, as a way of cooking, is prohibited. The exception is cooking in a dry skillet. Also, food can be cooked, baked in the oven, stewed.
  4. The food should be fractional, between breakfast, lunch and dinner, you need small snacks. You can eat a banana, an apple or a piece of cake with tea.
  5. Dishes should be eaten on the day of preparation, leave nothing at night.

Particular attention should be paid to drinking regimen. If for a healthy man with moderate physical exertion, the water norm is up to 2.5 liters, then for a patient with prostate cancer this value increases to three liters.

Water helps to combat nausea and vomiting, but if there is metastasis to the kidneys, the drinking regimen should be discussed individually.

Chemotherapy greatly affects the condition and function of the digestive tract, because a sick man faces a number of specific digestive problems. With the help of some tricks in nutrition, they can be slightly leveled.

  1. If you woke up and immediately felt nauseous, eat a slice of biscuit cookies.
  2. If the salivary gland functions are disturbed after a course of chemotherapy and it dries up quickly in your mouth, eat more liquid cereal, fruits, and also lean on herbal teas.
  3. If possible, eat onions and garlic - they stimulate appetite and contain elements useful for the prostate.
  4. For poor digestion, drink half a hour before eating a glass of warm water.
  5. If digestive disorders and diarrhea have begun, introduce flaxseed, boiled potatoes and crackers into the diet, and remove liquid fermented milk products and fresh vegetables.

Nutrition Guidelines for Prostate Cancer

The right choice of food will significantly increase the likelihood of a full recovery and make a man’s longer life longer. When drawing up the menu for the patient, it is necessary to take into account such indicators as:

  1. Glycemic index. Represents the rate of increase in sugar in the bloodstream after the use of certain products. The diet for prostate carcinoma should include a minimum of dishes with a high glycemic index: legumes, potatoes, corn, bread from the highest grade of flour.
  2. Phytonutrients. There are products for prostate cancer, including genistein or lycopene - substances that help fight cancer. These foods include pink grapefruit, watermelons, soybeans, tomatoes.
  3. Amino acids contained in red meat contribute to the growth of tumor formation.
  4. Antioxidants - elements that prevent the division of malignant cells. You can find them in berries, white cabbage, grapes, quality green tea, spinach.
  5. Products including hormones. To accelerate the growth of animals, birds and fish, farmers use hormones. When such meat is consumed, the level of insulin in the body rises, which negatively affects health and becomes the impetus for the development of oncology.

Food on the patient's table should be steamed, in the oven or on the grill. Fried foods are not allowed, as when frying, components are released that contribute to the growth and reproduction of cancer cells. Besides:

  • food should not be too hot or very cold,
  • it is possible to reduce the burden on the digestive organs by chewing food carefully and slowly,
  • meals need to be organized fractional (4-5 times a day),
  • dishes should be consumed exclusively in freshly prepared form.

Particular attention is paid to the drinking regimen. If a healthy adult male should drink 2-2.5 liters of water per day, then for a patient with a cancer patient, this amount increases to three liters.

Nutrition during treatment

When conducting chemotherapy in patients, a decrease in appetite, nausea, and vomiting are often observed. Starvation is forbidden for the body at such a time, so patients are offered not very sweet fruit drinks and juices that excite the digestive system and arouse the desire to eat. Eating should be 1-2 hours before the procedure or 1-2 hours after, which will avoid vomiting. Low-fat, easily digestible food, fruits, honey, sour-milk drinks are introduced into the diet. It is allowed to use chicken broth or juice without pulp.

Irradiation often leads to radiation cystitis, accompanied by painful urination. In such cases, the diet after radiation therapy for prostate cancer excludes the consumption of:

  • salt and salty foods,
  • spicy, canned, smoked, fatty dishes,
  • protein-rich foods (cottage cheese, cheese, meat),
  • refined starch (pastries, white flour bread),
  • artificial sugar
  • onions, garlic, radishes, horseradish, spinach, sorrel,
  • strong meat, fish, mushroom broths,
  • any liquor.

It should increase consumption:

  • croup
  • tea with milk
  • fruits and vegetables
  • non-acidic compotes, fruit drinks, herbal tea,
  • mineral still water,
  • watermelons and melons
  • berries.

A diet for hormonal therapy for prostate cancer involves limiting the consumption of spicy, fried, salty foods. If a man has a high indicator of calcium in the bloodstream, then he needs to avoid eating cheese, cottage cheese, beets, egg yolk.

The diet after removal of the tumor in prostate cancer should include many foods of plant origin, seafood, legumes. It is advisable to eat homemade food in which there are no harmful additives.

Correction of the diet depending on the stage of the disease

Changes in the diet are lasting. Therefore, patients need to have patience and willpower to ensure a positive result and get closer to recovery. Nutrition for prostate cancer of the 1st degree involves:

  • the exception of fatty foods: mayonnaise, butter, margarine, lard, etc.,
  • the use of products containing vitamin and mineral elements: vegetables, berries, fruits, nuts,
  • the exception of sweets, pastries, sweets.

Diet for stage 2 prostate cancer involves:

  • rejection of meat and fish of fatty varieties,
  • the use of dairy products,
  • cessation of coffee and caffeine-containing beverages,
  • inclusion in the menu of fresh vegetables and fruits,
  • reception of berry decoctions and fruit drinks, herbal tea.

With oncopathology, which is in the third stage, the patient needs to understand that he will not be able to fully recover. All therapy, including nutrition, is aimed at minimizing the unpleasant symptoms and consequences of cancer. When developing a diet for grade 3 prostate cancer, you must take into account the drugs that the doctor prescribes. The patient menu includes:

  • lean meat and fish,
  • cereals on the water (rice, buckwheat, eggs),
  • citruses, berries, seasonal vegetables / fruits,
  • olive, linseed, pumpkin seed oil,
  • skim milk drinks and cocktails.

The fourth stage of this disease is extremely dangerous. The body becomes vulnerable and can react sharply to even the smallest changes in everyday life. Nutrition for grade 4 prostate cancer with metastases should be balanced. You need to eat 4-5 times a day, in small portions. Fermented milk products, fresh vegetables, and herbs are allowed.

As a drink, herbal teas and decoctions of berries are used. Salty foods are limited in use. For intestinal disorders, dairy products should be excluded. A decoction of rice and bird cherry will help stop diarrheal syndrome and establish the process of digesting food.

Reviews of doctors and patients

  1. All diseases are unpleasant, but cancer can destroy even a strong and young man. It is extremely difficult to rebuild the patient’s diet. My grandfather had prostate cancer, and he needed to give up many of his favorite foods. He violated strict dietary rules, managing to eat forbidden food at night, secretly from his grandmother. But when the doctor said that one could die from such a disease, then grandfather took up his mind, went on a diet, lost weight, stopped smoking like a steam locomotive. Later he lay down under a knife, went through a rehabilitation course. As a result, he lived another ten years. Marina, 22 years old.
  2. Good nutrition has not stopped anyone, especially if you combine it with a healthy lifestyle, regular sex and giving up bad habits. For some reason, people begin to go on a diet when it is too late, and the disease has come. My uncle found stage four prostate cancer. He drank all his life, smoked and led an immoral way of being. Vegetable soups and salads did not help him. Vitaliy, 36 years old.
  3. Recommendations for proper nutrition should be observed not only for patients with carcinoma, but also for all men as a prevention of various pathologies. Diet will stop the division of cancer cells and increase life expectancy. Oncologist Kuralin V.V.

The daily diet for prostate cancer includes all the necessary foods that saturate the body and help cope with the disease at any stage of treatment. The diet is discussed with the attending physician, who will take into account not only its basic principles, but also the characteristics of the patient’s body. It is strictly forbidden to enter certain products into the menu or exclude them from use on their own.
